Cervical Cancer Threatens On Women

It is 99% of cervical cancers caused by infection of HPV (Human Papilloma Virus). There are no symptoms or certain signs when HPV is infected, so many people do not realize if they had been infected with HPV, or even spread it. Besides causing cervical cancer, HPV can cause genital warts (genital warts / condiloma).

Genital warts can be diagnosed through direct observation (visual) and can be eliminated by treatment from a doctor. Treatment can eliminate genital warts, but does not eliminate the causing virus inside the body. Because that virus is still in the body, mostly, genital warts often reappear even after the treatment. Genital warts that are often relapse, certainly can cause psychological burden for the sufferer.

At this time, cervical cancer and genital warts that is caused by HPV infection can be prevented through vaccination which can help provide some protection. Cervical cancer can be prevented by various efforts including primary prevention by vaccination and secondary prevention with an early detection such as Pap smears. Doing Pap smear regularly can help protect from the risk of cervical cancer development. Women who have been married or already having sexual intercourse, you should do pap smears regularly.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), every year in the whole world, 490,000 women diagnosed with cervical cancer, where 80% of cases occur in developing countries, and 240,000 of them are died. While based on the data of GLOBOCAN in 2002, around the world every 2 minutes there was a death due to cervical cancer, with 1 new case in every minute.

In Indonesia, can be found 41 new cases ever day and resulted as deaths of 20 women.
