Central Sterile Supply
Central Sterile Concepts and role of Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) has grown from just a department in the hospital became the coordinator of a working system of supply and sterile equipment, this can be analogous to such a unit into an autoclave for sterilization of hospital infection prevention control system in hospital. Ideally, the CSSD is an independent department with facilities for receiving, cleaning, packing, to disinfect, to sterile, store and distribute equipment (both of which can be used repeatedly and disposable equipment), in addition with standard procedures. The workload for the CSSD varies from one hospital compared with other hospitals.
Why in this era, in which cutting spending and limited space is important, we chose a separate independent department for sterilization? With a separate independent CSSD, we can save money by purchasing sterilizer curos in one department. This also ensures that sterile process will be overseen by a special staff and run in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP).
CSSD require special technical skills, this could mean that the department controls all activities and management asset, which indirectly also affect the purchase of surgical instruments for general and specific as well as other inventory. CSSD in one hospital reflects a rare, high quality services.
